This small summer resort area known as Jonesport,
Maine is a small coastal town located in Washington
County.
In 1789 the Massachusetts General Court granted 48,160
acres to John C. Jones and some others.
On March 4, 1809 the town was incorporated as Jonesboro.
Then on February 3, 1832 a portion of
Jonesboro was set off and incorporated as Jonesport.
Then on April 7, 1925 a section of
Jonesport was set off and incorporated as the island
town of Beals which is only accessible by a
bridge which stretches across what we call Moosabec
Reach.
Our main industries include fishing, blueberry raking
and tourist activities.
Jonesport was the birth place of Marv Peasley a major
league baseball pitcher for the
Detroit Tigers. Marv played the game in 1910 and only
pitched ten innings in two games.
Before leaving the game he got to play with two hall of
famers, Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford.
Marv passed away in 1948 at the young age of fifty-nine
in California.
